About CA Monsell Fine Landscape and Stone

To My Most Valued Clients . . .

Thank you for considering me for your landscape work. I grew up in a family that works in the trades and spent many of my years helping my father in his carpentry business. I knew from a young age that working with my hands was something I wanted to do. My father taught me the value of hard work and the dedication to craftsmanship that is essential to the trades. I went on lots of hiking trips in Baxter State Park with my family growing up and have hiked many mountains across the north east. My connection is strong to the outdoors, the forests and rock. I studied and got a degree in biology and philosophy in college at Saint Michael’s in Vermont and my favorite subjects were natural history and botany. I knew that something was brewing in me and yet it took me some time to figure out what to do with my interests and how they could direct me to a career I love. While in Vermont, I ski patrolled and coached kids of all abilities and I found that I love working with people as much as I love working with my hands.

"I remember coming home one day and seeing an arborist pruning a city tree in front of my house and it hit me. I knew I wanted to landscape and I immediately found a job in the landscape business in Vermont and I spent 5 years learning and working for a great company. I then felt drawn to return home to Maine and be near my family."

Moving Back to Maine

I missed the ocean and had more connections here. I began working for a phenomenal landscape company in the Falmouth area and I continued to cultivate my knowledge and skill in the landscape trade for five more years with them. I learned much from the owners, crew, foreman and helpers taking little bits of knowledge every step of the way. I never close myself off to learning and am not too good to grow or be wrong. I am most excited to learn new things from different plant combinations, to a perennial I have never heard of, to a different way to install stone, I get excited every day to go to work. I know a craft is not something you attain it is something you always work toward. With such a vast world it would be a shame to not strive to evolve the knowledge base and be open to new ideas and ways of looking at things.

Starting My Own Business

I decided to take a step on my own and start my business 6 years ago. I knew my growth was finite at the company I worked for and I was ready to start my family with my wonderful, hardworking and talented wife who inspired me to become the business man I am today. I wanted to make sure that I could provide my family with the same opportunities that were provided to me. I had a great network of clients that wanted to work with me and I felt safe to take the leap on my own.

Our Business Model

I was able to craft my business into my own model based off the best customer service, the highest dedication to quality, my interest in the plant world and my love for hard work and wrestling stone. I can guide my own day and oversee every project from start to finish to ensure that it is worthy of my father’s name. I love what I do and I would love to work with you to create something beautiful, artistic and enduring at your home. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Brian Monsell, Owner

Our Staff

I realized once while trying to move a tree on my own that I just couldn’t do it and I needed help. I feel very fortunate to have found a great crew that can each help me in their own way. Each brings a unique set of interests and skills to the team that makes the company function better and more efficiently. I couldn’t do it with out them and am very grateful for them being part of the team.
